general aea rules

section 1: tournament rules

  1. Though this tournament is designed to bring out a high level of competition in its participants, keep in mind that it's still a game. Practice good sportsmanship and remember most of us need to work on Monday, so keep it clean, safe and fun.
  2. AEA Commissioner will make the final decision on any and all tournament disputes. Dekes & Dangles does not have on ice officials.
  3. All participants and spectators will be expected to follow the USA Hockey Zero Tolerance Policy. Those found to be in violation by any of the arena staff, officials or tournament directors will be removed immediately from the tournament and the rink. Lost time will not be put back on to the clock.
  4. Damage done to the facility by fans, players or teams will be held responsible for the cost of any property damage resulting from their actions.
  5. Captains have your team ready to go at 10 minutes prior to game time. Game will start promptly when scheduled.
  6. Refund Policy: If a weekend needs to be cancelled your team will be refunded for any games less than your guaranteed three (3) games not played. Your team will receive $100 refund for each games under three (3) that is not played. Refunds will be issued to the team Captain only.

section 2: rosters & team rules

  1. Roster size is eight (8). No subs allowed at any time for players that may miss a game due to injury or personal events. Your team must play short.
  2. All players must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Captains are responsible for adding and building a team that is AEA Salary Cap compliant.

    8 person roster | top 6 goes against the cap

    A/B+ Bracket: $4.80 million & above
    B Bracket: $3.40 million - $3.70 million
    C Bracket: Less than $2.50 million
    30+ Bracket: $4.10 million - $4.40 million
    40+ Bracket: $3.40 million - $3.70 million
    COED Bracket: $3.00 million - $3.20 million
    Women's Bracket: $2.45 - $2.70 million
    D&D Pond Hockey Championship Series: $3.75 million - $4.00 million


  4. All players must register with the AEA prior to being added to any roster. Players will be issued a Player ID once they have registered with the AEA. Failure to do so, could result in a forfeit or removal of these “non-rostered” players from the event.

  5. Captains may register/roster their own players to their team OR they can forward the registration form to their team to fill out.

  6. Captains please verify your roster and make sure your teammates are all listed.

  7. A team will/could forfeit their game if a "non-rostered" player is found to be playing during that game. A "non-rostered" player could be a banned or suspended player, a player that is has not registered with the AEA or for the event.
  8. Bring an alternate color jersey.
  9. Be prepared to show ID at anytime.

section 3: game play & time rules

  1. All USA Hockey/MAHA rules apply. (Just like most men’s leagues)
  2. Guaranteed 3 Games
  3. Center Ice Face-off to start the game, halftime or overtime.
  4. Overtime is one "sudden death" period. First team to score wins the game.
  5. Friday: All teams will play at least one (1) game on Friday evening.
  6. Saturday: All teams will play the remainder of their schedule on Saturday.
  7. Sunday: Make-up time for any lost ice time on Friday and Saturday.
  8. Game Length: Two (2), 17 minute run time halves. Shoveling is optional at halftime, teams must agree. Both teams must assist in clearing the ice at the conclusion of the game.
  9. Teams may choose not to change sides at halftime.
  10. Line Changes: On the fly like traditional hockey.
  11. No timeouts permitted, including finals.
  12. No offsides or icing.
  13. No slap shots permitted.
  14. No checking permitted.
  15. No goalies permitted. Players are not allowed to play or "camp" in the goal crease area. No goalie equipment allowed. D&D is a 3 v 3 tournament with small boxed goals.
  16. No fighting permitted. Fighting may result in the removal from the current event as well as future events. Length of suspensions will be reviewed.
  17. Penalties, we player under a "Gentlemen's Game" or more commonly known as "Call Your Own". Please call your own game. Any assistance from bystanders is appreciated. If necessary to require the AEA Commissioner and/or Tournament Director, his/her input is the "Final Word".
  18. Minor Penalties: Hooking, holding, tripping, interference – typical hockey penalties — is a change in possession. Puck is awarded to the offended team behind their goal box.
  19. Major Penalties & "Extreme" Unsportsmanlike Conduct: All offenses of a physical nature – including, but not limited to high sticking, cross-checking, elbowing, roughing etc – player is removed from the game, goal and puck possession is awarded to the offended team behind their goal box. If the player refuses to leave the playing area a goal will be rewarded for each minute the player is present at or around rink side. I player that leaves respectfully may possibly be able to play in future games and events, after a review of the situation, no subs allowed.
  20. The AEA Commissioner and/or Tournament Director will review all situation and reduce/enforce any additional actions and/or suspensions.
  21. Unplayable Puck: Any puck that is unplayable; the offending team loses possession and the offended team is awarded the puck behind their goal box.
  22. No falling/laying on the ice in effort to block any pass or shot. Player must make an attempt to stay on their feet at all times. Minor Penalty.
  23. No laying the stick on the ice in effort to block any pass or shot. Minor Penalty.
  24. No intentionally moving the goal box to prevent a goal. Goal awarded to offended team.
  25. No pucks above the knees. Any puck raised higher than the knee will result in the offended team takes possession of the puck behind their goal box. Must be called by the offended team.
  26. Possession Changes: Penalty, puck goes out of play, puck above the knee, the possession is awarded to the appropriate team behind the goal box. The defending team must remain behind the center ice line until the offense team engages the play. Reasonable time should be given to a team to reset after any possession change; give the team time to retrieve the puck from the goal, reset after a new puck is thrown on the ice and/or awarded on any possession change. Apply "Gentlemen's Game" theory.
  27. Goal Possession Change:
    Defense: All defensive players must return and stay behind the center ice line until the puck is removed from the goal box. If a goal is scored and bounces out of the goal box without the assistance from the scored upon team; the defensive team cannot take this opportunity to challenge/steal the puck. The defense must wait until the offensive team has started play again.
    Offense: If you desire a line change; leave the puck in the goal box or return the puck to the goal box prior to doing so. Once the puck is removed from the goal box the defending team has the right to engage in the play.
    Offense: As soon as the puck is removed from the goal box and all three (3) defensive players are tagged up behind the center ice line; play is allowed to presume immediately.
  28. Players must play in half of the round robin game in order to get their name on the championship crest.

section 4: scoring & bracket rankings rules

  1. Goals must be scored from the offensive side of center ice.
  2. Following each goal, the team that scored will announce the score in a clear and precise manner.
  3. Goal Possession Changes, see Section 3:27
  4. Standing will be posted by the AEA Commissioner and/or Tournament Directors, please assist us with remember scores of games.
  5. 8 Team Bracket: Double elimination style tournament; including the final game. All teams must lose twice to be eliminated.
  6. 4 Team Bracket: Round-robin play followed by mini playoff; 1 v 4, 2 v 3 and then finals.
  7. The AEA Commissioner or Tournament Directors reserve the right to determine schedule and competitive divisions based upon age, player ability, experience or other factors.

section 5: coed rules

  1. 7-8 Person Roster: Must have four (4) women on the roster and ready to play.
  2. 6 Person Roster: Must have three (3) women on the roster and ready to play.
  3. One (1) woman must be on the ice at all times.

section 7: league rules

  2. Wednesday Night: Set Schedule
  3. Thursday "King of the Hill" Night: Drop-in league, join the rotation.

section 6: other rules

  1. Your team must be within the AEA Salary Cap limits for the bracket you are participating in and approved by the AEA Commissioner and/or Tournament Director.
  2. The first team listed on the schedule is the home team. This team has choice of bench and jersey colors.
  3. Helmets are required, face shields and face cages are optional.
  4. The AEA Commissioner and/or Tournament Director has the right to refuse the right to any player from participating in any tournament games.
  5. There will be a five (5) minute grace period if you do not have at least three (3) players present at game time. After this five (5) minute grace period has been exhausted a forfeit win will be awarded to the team ready to play.
  6. The AEA Commissioner or Tournament Directors reserves the right to make any decisions regarding tournament rules, format, etc. for the overall good of the event.
  7. Sponsors and all tournament staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  8. By participating in this event you accept any and all risk involved with participating in this event. You understand that For The Kids Gymnastics, promoters, sponsors and staff members are not responsible for any injuries or death that may occur while participating in this event.
